Anna and the French Kiss
By Stephanie Perkins

So I finally read Anna and the French Kiss and I understand why everybody seems to love it. This is quite possibly the cutest and most adorable book that I have ever read. Stephanie Perkins you are amazing! I loved reading about Anna and St. Clair and how their relationship evolved over the book. I’m not an overly emotional person and don’t cry too much, but this book had me.
I really like the character of Anna, she was funny, sarcastic, and if she was real or if I knew her personally I think that we would be really good friends. Etienne St. Clair. What is not to like about him other than his girlfriend? He is funny, sweet, caring and all up an amazing guy.
If you have not yet read this book, or even if you have I would definitely recommend this book. It is a cute YA contemporary romance that will have you laughing and crying, sometimes at the same time.
Below are some of my thoughts, although they do contain spoilers, so if you haven’t yet read this book and don’t want to be spoiled come back after.
Shatter Me By Tahereh Mafi

This book has been sitting on my shelf for quite a while now, but I finally picked it up and I’m really glad that I did. The writing is different to anything else I’ve ever read, there are lots of
cross outs and repetition is used frequently. Not that it was bad, just different.
The cover. I don’t know what to say. The cover on the left is the original and the pretty one on the right is the revised cover. The original one is… shiny. That might possibly be the one thing that I like about it. I adore the new one and it matches the rest of the book covers in the series. I’m not too sure how either covers relate to the book, but at least they’re pretty – at least the new one is.
Juliette, the protagonist, can kill people by touching them, which kind of sucks for her, and by kind of I mean completely. Throughout the book Juliette discovers things about herself that she didn’t know before, but I think that in the second book, Unravel Me, she will discover a lot more than she did in Shatter Me. Before I finish this part I would like to say that I did not see the book ending the way it did and if you have already read the book I think you know what I mean.
I gave Shatter Me 4 hearts because I thought that the story and writing to be unique and I really enjoyed reading it. It didn’t quite make 5 hearts because there were very brief moments when nothing was really happening and there wasn’t as much character development as I was expecting for some of the characters (Yes I’m talking about you Warner).
I would recommend this to anyone who is wanting to read something a little different. I have tagged this book under adventure, because throughout the book Juliette goes on an adventure in some sense, she goes places she has never been before and there are intense moments filled with action. Even if action and adventure isn’t your cup of tea, there is romance throughout the book and if it still isn’t appealing to you how about the fact that she can kill people just by touching them? Interesting right?

This is the first mermaid book that I have read in a long time and I really enjoyed it. The story is very fun, interesting and easy to read, as soon as I started reading Of Poseidon I was hooked. This book got me out of a bad book slump, which I am grateful for.
The characters are easy going, with the exception of Rayna who is very ambitious. Galen is the mysterious hottie, Emma the not so normal teenage girl and Toraf who stirs up trouble. Toraf would have to be my favourite character so far, but Galen is a close second.
Lets talk book covers. The cover depicts a girl underwater heading for the surface and the white dress she is wearing reveals that she has human legs, suggesting that she is not a mermaid. The cover is almost grayscale, which can be a bit boring, but the pink in the title brings out the blue a little bit. It relates to the story, but the cover art could have been brighter.
I only gave this book 3 hearts because whilst I enjoyed it, if I had read this when I wasn’t in a book slump I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much; although that’s just because compared to the other books I read the storyline is a lot less complex.
All up I liked this book, it doesn’t quite make my favourites but it definitely isn’t at the bottom of that list. If you are having trouble finding a book that you can just sit down and read I recommend try reading Of Poseidon, it worked for me and hopefully it will for you 🙂
I’m so sorry that I have posted anything lately. Just after New Years the internet decided it had had enough and stopped working, so I have only just recently gotten internet connection again. Yay! Hopefully I’ll have some more reviews to share with you soon.
